Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Reiki session like?
Reiki sessions are designed to provide a quiet, supportive space for rest, relaxation, and self-care.
During a session, you will remain fully clothed and comfortably positioned lying down or seated, if preferred. The practitioner may place their hands lightly on or just above different areas of the body. Sessions are gentle, non-invasive, and tailored to your comfort level.
Many clients describe the experience as an opportunity to slow down, disconnect from daily stressors, and reconnect with themselves in a calm and intentional way. Sessions typically last between 30-60 minutes.
What can I expect to feel after a Reiki session?
Experiences vary from person to person, and there is no "right" way to experience Reiki. Some clients report feeling deeply relaxed, calm, grounded, or emotionally lighter following a session. Others notice increased self-awareness, mental clarity, or a greater sense of connection to themselves and their overall well-being.
During a session, some people notice sensations such as warmth, heaviness, lightness, tingling, or a feeling of deep relaxation. Others simply enjoy the opportunity to rest quietly.
While many clients find Reiki supportive for stress reduction and overall wellness, individual experiences and outcomes will vary.
Are there any side effects from a Reiki treatment?
Reiki is generally considered a gentle wellness practice and is well-tolerated by most people.
Many clients leave feeling relaxed and refreshed. Occasionally, individuals may notice temporary fatigue, emotional sensitivity, or a desire for additional rest afterward. Because experiences vary, it can be helpful to give yourself space to hydrate, rest, and notice how you are feeling following your session.
If you have concerns about a medical condition, Reiki should be used as a complementary wellness practice and not as a substitute for medical care.
What is the difference between a Distance Reiki session and a Virtual Reiki session?
Distance Reiki is provided remotely without a live appointment. The session is completed at an agreed-upon time, and clients are encouraged to create space for rest, reflection, or quiet self-care if possible. A brief follow-up summary may be provided afterward.
Virtual Reiki sessions take place live through a secure online platform. During the session, you and the practitioner meet in real time, allowing for conversation, guidance, reflection, and a more interactive experience.
Both options offer the flexibility of receiving services from the comfort of your own space.
Is Reiki associated with a religion or spiritual practice?
No. Reiki is not a religion and does not require any particular spiritual or religious beliefs.
Originating in Japan, Reiki is commonly used as a complementary wellness practice that supports relaxation, mindfulness, and overall well-being. Individuals from a variety of religious, spiritual, and secular backgrounds choose to incorporate Reiki into their self-care routines.
Is Reiki covered by insurance?
Reiki services are considered wellness services and are not currently covered by insurance through Serene Life Counseling & Wellness.

I currently receive therapy, or previously received therapy, at Serene Life Counseling & Wellness. Can I also schedule Reiki sessions?
Possibly. Reiki and energy healing services are offered as separate wellness services and are not psychotherapy or mental health treatment.
For clients who are interested, Reiki may be incorporated as part of a broader wellness approach when clinically appropriate and client-centered. Participation is always voluntary, and clients are welcome to receive therapy services, Reiki services, or both.
Reiki is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or replace medical or mental health care. Clients are encouraged to continue working with their medical and mental health providers as appropriate.
